The title and subject of the poem allude to the ancient Greek idea of the colossus, which was a statue that represented a deceased person. The colossus was meant to evoke the individual's presence as well as his absence, thus creating a sense of the uncanny.
Shadow of the Colossus begins ominously. After a stunning introductory sequence, the protagonist Wander reaches a massive ornate bridge leading to a shrine, a pile of stone spires that resembles the Tower of Babel: Inside, we see that he has brought with him the lifeless body of a woman named Mono.
Shadow of the Colossus is the prequel to ICO. At the end of shadow (spoiler) you get turned into a baby with horns thus starting the cursed boys that are in ICO.
So, there on the bottom of the list was Shadow of the Colossus. I had ignored it initially, mainly because I recall it looking rather challenging to play but when you’re stressed from multiple essays and deadlines, all coherent thoughts go out the drain, and I started a new save file.

This long and wonderful interview with ICO and Shadow of the Colossus creator Fumito Ueda first appeared in vol. 25 of the excellent CONTINUE magazine in 2005, and was later compiled in a book of interviews. It covers Ueda’s entire career up to that point: his childhood years, art school, working at WARP, and finally settling in at Sony as a full-fledged game creator.
Shadow of the Colossus is different. The game’s director, Fumito Ueda, and the developers at Team Ico clearly understand, and heavily rely on, the visual language of film. Ueda’s philosophy has been described as “design by subtraction” (4).

In that opening, I’d like you to note all the camera angles, ambient noises, and especially music that all came together to create the feeling of that opening.
I’m playing Shadow of the Colossus, and I’m a bit angry. Though you, future Caleb, have it all figured out, here in the present I’m playing Shadow of the Colossus, and I, like many of its players, have questions about the game’s theme, its purpose, its mystery. But lacking answers to those questions doesn’t make me love the game any less.
